• Don Devany, director of bands at Glenbard East High School, was selected to be one of three judges at the 2008 Heritage Music Festival, held March 15 in Chicago.

Devany did performance critiques and provided clinic sessions for the participating ensembles. Other judges were Daniel Sommerville of Wheaton College and M. Scott McBride of Morehead State University, Kentucky.

• Kevin H. Shallcross, a senior at Wheaton Warrenville South High School, was named a candidate for the 2008 Presidential Scholars Program.

Shallcross is one of 2,600 selected from a pool of 2.8 million selected for exceptional performance on either SAT or ACT exams. Semifinalists will be chosen in April and finalists will be chosen in May. Kevin is the son of Karen and Kirk Shallcross.

• Ellen Jackson, Family Nutrition Program Coordinator at the University of Illinois Extension-DuPage County, recently was recognized by Gov. Rod Blagojevich for her work promoting healthy lifestyles.

Jackson is one of eight recipients of the Community Partnerships Award, given by the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Interagency Nutrition Council. She was recognized for organizing a series of classes for local refugee women in collaboration with other community agencies.
