MCC to host conditioning workshop March 15
How can you train for speed or power? What's the latest news on stretching and flexibility? And what should you eat to compete?
These questions and many more will be answered at McHenry County College's 2008 Midwest Strength and Conditioning Clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. March 15 in the MCC conference center, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
Sponsored by Perform Better, the clinic is open to anyone interested in the field of fitness, whether for hobby or profession, and will feature several mini workshops throughout the day on such topics as odd-object lifting for strength and metabolic conditioning, sport nutritional supplements, Plyometrics and complex training, and making the transition from trainer to coach.
Keynote speaker will be Donald Chu, Ph.D. Chu, a nationally recognized specialist in sports medicine, is the director and founder of Athercare Fitness and Rehabilitation in Castro Valley, Cal. He currently serves as president of the California State Board of Physical Therapy and has authored "Jumping into Plyometrics," 2nd edition; "Power Tennis Training"; "Explosive Strength and Power"; and "Plyometric Exercises with the Medicine Ball," 2nd edition.
Chu is the former director of Athletic Training and Rehabilitation at Stanford University. His past clients include athletes from the 1984-2000 summer Olympics and professional athletes from the NFL.
Previously, he developed strength and conditioning programs for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming team.
Cost is $99 per person, $49 for college and high school students. Registration after today is $119, or $59 for students. No refunds will be granted. Lunch is included in the fee. Continuing education credits will be awarded for the National Strength and Conditioning Association, American Council of Exercise and the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
