Briefs: GOP leader charged in DUI
Will County Republican Party Chairman Jack Partelow was arrested after he was involved in an accident early Wednesday, Bolingbrook police said Friday. Lt. Ken Teppel said Partelow, 73, of Naperville, was driving north on Weber Road just after 2 a.m. when he lost control of his car near the Hassert Road intersection, collided with the median divider and spun around. Partelow refused medical treatment at the scene and also refused to submit to field sobriety test, police said. He eventually was charged with DUI, improper lane use and driving too fast for conditions. He post 10 percent of a $3,000 bond and is due in a Will County courtroom to face the charges March 7.
Crash victim improves
An Addison woman's condition was upgraded from serious to good Friday, a day after she was hurt in a Geneva car crash. Martha E. Solis, 39, was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after the two-vehicle crash about 7:30 a.m. on Peck Road. She was listed in good condition Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said. The accident remains under investigation, police said.
Police probe vandalism
Naperville Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in a recent vandalism spree. Police on Friday said vandals kicked in the rear doors of three Dodge Caravans sometime on Sunday or Monday at Naperville Dodge, 1565 W. Ogden Ave. Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006. Callers may remain anonymous.
Naperville names clerk
Pamela LaFeber on Monday will permanently take on the duties of Naperville's records management team leader and city clerk. LaFeber, who was appointed by City Manager Pro Tem Bob Marshall, has held the role of acting city clerk since last June. A swearing-in ceremony is planned but a date has not been announced. LaFeber is a doctoral candidate in public administration from Northern Illinois University and holds a master's in public administration from Illinois State University. She started with the city as an administrative analyst for the police department. She also worked as the operations manager for finance, strategy and communications within the Transportation, Engineering and Development Business Group.
Iraq memento in Lombard
A patriotic memento sent from Iraq will be on display in Lombard village hall's vestibule. Lombard water plant operator John "Jack" Karol sent the village an American flag that few over the Sather Air Force Base Nov. 12 in Baghdad. Karol, who is a staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force's 447th Civil Engineer Squadron, is part of a military crew helping keep an Iraq water plant operating. The flag will remain on display until his return from the Middle East, which is undetermined at this time.
