Alderman praised for years of service to West Chicago
West Chicago city officials took time out of their council meeting on Monday to honor outgoing 2nd Ward Alderman Greg Kauth.
Kauth, who has served on the city council for the last five years, resigned to take a promotion as a shipping manager for General Electric in Houston.
"West Chicago will always occupy a large part of my heart," Kauth said. "The people here welcomed me with open arms."
Kauth was chairman of the community affairs committee and also served on both the city council's finance committee and youth commission.
He was among several officials who worked on Mayor Michael Kwasman's 2007 mayoral campaign.
"It's not often you find an official who comes around and moves with supersonic speed," Kwasman said.
Kwasman said he will appoint a three-man committee, consisting of himself and two aldermen, to appoint a replacement for Kauth's seat. He hasn't set a timetable to fill the open position.
