PBS host to discuss family economics

PBS host and author Kelvin Boston will be the keynote speaker at the REACH Inc. Personal Economic Empowerment seminar from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Westin Lombard, 70 Yorktown Center, Lombard.

The workshop includes sessions about buying real estate, investing in stocks, planning for your child's education and more.

Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door. REACH is a nonprofit that provides assistance to individuals and families, including financial assistance, emergency housing and a food pantry.

Local chefs to offer new cooking ideas

New Year, New Food Ideas will be the cooking demonstration and tasting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Roselle Public Library, 40 S. Park St., Roselle.

Chefs Pina and Edward of Pina's Culinary Experience in Roselle will demonstrate creative ways to prepare favorite foods.

Sensory disorders is topic of seminar

Charles Chapple of Advanced Chiropractic will present "The Structure and Function of Sensory Processing Disorders: From ADD to Autism" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mark Drugs, 384 E. Irving Park Road, Roselle.

The cost is $10, with proceeds benefiting Little Friends Inc., a not-for-profit organization that serves children with disabilities.

Adults are asked to read cookbook

A Winter Adult Reading Program at Itasca Community Library, 500 W. Irving Park Road, Itasca, continues through Feb. 25.

The theme of the program is "Cooking Up a Storm." Adults are asked to read two books, plus one cookbook, by Feb. 25. Participants will receive a raffle ticket to win cooking lessons at Pina's Culinary Experience in Roselle.

Join library for 52 Books, 51 Weeks

The 52 Books, 52 Weeks program has started at Bensenville Community Public Library.

The yearlong reading program's goal is to make reading a part of a family's week every week. Registration for the program is still open, and can be done at the library, 200 S. Church Road, Bensenville, or online at www.52books.org.
