Briefs: Museum library honored
The Lake County Discovery Museum's library has been named the 2008 Library of the Year by the North Suburban Library System. The museum library, located within the Lakewood Forest Preserve near Wauconda, will be honored at the 16th annual system membership awards banquet on March 14. Cook Friends hold meeting
The Friends of Cook Memorial Library will hold a meeting at 7 tonight in the program room at the library, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. The meeting is open to all residents who are interested in joining the Friends group. New volunteers are needed for the organization to continue. The volunteer group sponsors the popular used book sales with proceeds returned back to the library for programs and equipment.
New police program
Mundelein police will host another citizens police academy starting April 8. The free program will be on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. for 10 weeks. Class size is limited to 40 students who are village residents and older than 18. If interested, call officer Brian Kisselburg at (847) 968-4600.
Polar Plunge
Fox Lake will host the second annual Polar Plunge at the Lakefront Park on Nippersink Drive. The event, which is sponsored by the Special Olympics of Illinois, is set for Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. The cost of the event is $75.
