Winfield Township deserves 'yes' vote

It is a very rare occurrence that I come out in support of a tax referendum for anything. However, there will be one on the ballot that I feel deserves a YES vote.

The Winfield Township Highway Department has attempted at least twice before to get this referendum passed and it has failed.

There are a few things to consider now before you make up your mind as to how you will vote regarding this.

First, when this department says its costs are continually going up it is indeed true. They have diminished an already small number of staff and cut out all that they possibly can at this point.

If you look at the effect it would have on your tax bill if it does pass, it is extremely minimal to the extent that you would probably not even notice it.

Winfield Township Highway does not have the wherewithal to utilize a flashy marketing scheme, complete with glossy mailers, to try to convince voters of the merit for a yes vote on this. They are just a small number of hardworking people that go our everyday and do the job of maintaining their roads to the very best of their ability, and they hope that the good job they do will convince the voters that they do indeed deserve, and need the additional funding this referendum would produce.

I would hope that we are not at a point where flashy marketing and glossy mailers carry a greater weight with the voters than just plain hard work and doing a good job. If doing a good job as Winfield Township Highway does everyday can be enough, then please join me and vote YES for their referendum.
