Gang suspect arrested in Schaumburg

Schaumburg police have arrested a suspected gang member after seizing drugs, drug paraphernalia and four loaded handguns from his condominium unit.

Miguel Joseph Valencia, 30, of 1926 Prairie Square, Unit 213, was charged Thursday night with six felony offenses, police announced Friday.

Valencia's charges include armed violence, aggravated possession of stolen firearms, intent to deliver cocaine, unlawful possession with intent to deliver cocaine, unlawful possession of 15 to 100 grams of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of 500 to 2,000 grams of marijuana.

The police department's Special Investigations Bureau executed a search warrant at Valencia's condo at 7:25 p.m. Thursday after obtaining information that established probable cause for the search, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said.

Police said they found in the condo about a pound of marijuana, about 44 grams of cocaine, a loaded .357 magnum revolver reported stolen from Mount Prospect, a loaded .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol reported stolen from Schaumburg, another loaded .357 revolver, a loaded 9-mm semi-automatic pistol and an unspecified amount of cash.

Also found was various drug paraphernalia including scales, baggies, sifters and grinders, police said.

The cash and estimated street value of the marijuana and cocaine totals about $8,000, Nebl said.

Valencia's bond was set at $100,000 Friday morning, and he remained in custody late Friday, Nebl said.

Valencia is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 28 at the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

"I am very proud of our officers," Schaumburg Director of Police Richard Casler said in a prepared statement. "They have taken a dangerous offender off the streets and the recovery of stolen handguns makes our community safer."
