One dead in Schaumburg crash

Schaumburg police are investigating a car's collision with a tree Monday night in which the 26-year-old passenger was killed.

Michael Q. Bell, of the 100 block of White Branch Court in Schaumburg, was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old Streamwood woman, was treated and released from Alexian Brothers after having to be extricated from the vehicle.

The driver is currently in police custody while investigators determine whether any charges will be filed.

The investigation so far has determined that the four-door 1997 Mercury Sable was traveling south on the 800 block of Braintree Drive, when it left the road near Radcliffe Lane at approximately 8:53 p.m. Monday. It continued south on the west parkway until the passenger side door struck a tree.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
