The works of Shel Silverstein will be celebrated in the musical, "Where the Sidewalk Ends," produced by American Eagle Productions of Chicago.
The performance will begin at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Bartlett Community Center, 700 S. Bartlett Road. Admission is $6 in advance, or $7 at the door. All seats are reserved.

Library Makeover Kick-Off Party
A Library Makeover Kick-Off Party will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Bartlett Public Library, 800 S. Bartlett Road. Celebrate the library's upcoming remodeling project.

Benefit concert at Friendship Village
A benefit concert for The Artistry in Music Foundation will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the concert hall of Friendship Village, 350 W. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.
Volunteer participants will provide a night of classical music. During intermission, a string quartet will play Joplin, and snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
The orchestra will be conducted by Joseph Malmquist, director of the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra, Conant High School Orchestra, and a member of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
Featured will be the works of Vivaldi, Bach and others. In addition to the orchestra, there will also be solo numbers featuring teachers and advanced students.

Safety awareness, self-defense classes
Champion Youth Outreach, a non-profit youth activity provider, will sponsor safety awareness and self-defense classes at Heritage Elementary School, 507 Arnold Ave., Streamwood. Classes will be held from 6 to 6:40 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 8-April 4.
Classes are open to ages 5 and up, as well as parents. The program combines safety awareness education with karate instruction in a fun, structured environment. Children will learn how to identify and deal with strangers and bullies. Advanced classes are also available.
