Many of us believe the myth that aging and memory loss go hand in hand. The reality is that memory does change as we age, but forgetfulness is common for people at all stages of life.

It's important to note that your memory can be strengthened. Older adults often fear they have Alzheimer's disease if they can't remember someone's name or where they put their car keys. Forgetting where you put your car keys is normal. Forgetting that keys open doors may signal a problem.

The workshop, Building A Better Memory, will cover how researchers are examining the memory process, how memory changes as people age, and some techniques and strategies for improving memory.

Building A Better Memory will be presented at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 by Betty Barsley-Marra, Extension Educator, Family Life, at McHenry Township Senior Center.

The workshop is sponsored by University of Illinois Extension. If you need reasonable accommodations to participate in the program, please make your request when registering.
