McHenry County College notes
Learn a new career as a paralegal, dental assistant or veterinary assistant -- three new programs offered by the Community and Professional Programs Department at McHenry County College's University Center. Classes are at 100 S. Main St. in Crystal Lake.

These classes are currently accepting registration:
• Paralegal certificate: This class is intended for someone who is seeking a new and exciting career or a side job. This program covers state and federal law and the legal/paralegal professions from pre-trial to post-trail phases emphasizing on the paralegal's role. This certificate program meets from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 4 through May 15. The $3,599 fee includes books and materials as well as the National Association of Legal Assistants certification exam fee and exam. Reference course ID is USV U50 002 when registering.
• Veterinary Assistant: Veterinary assistants have been identified by the U.S. Department of Labor as one of the fastest growing professions. If you are seeking a new career or side job this is a great opportunity. Work alongside veterinarians and technicians providing care to sick and injured animals. Classes begin Feb. 4 and conclude May 15. Classes meet from 3 to 6:15 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Course fee is $1,699. Reference course ID NVT C01 001 when registering.
• Dental Assistant: In just a few short weeks you can be on your way to a new career. Dental assistants are responsible for the behind the scenes action in a dental office. Topics covered are: patient management and communication, business management and supervision, fiscal responsibility, and record keeping. Students interested in healthcare management are encouraged to specialize in dental management. The Dental Assistant class meets twice a week from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 4 through May 14.
