Conference aimed at parents who have kids with disabilities
Options and Advocacy for McHenry County and Child and Family Connections will present Get Connected from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 9 at McHenry County College, Conference Center, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
This fourth annual parent conference is specifically designed for parents of children with disabilities/delays from birth through age 21. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
Session 1 will be offered from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Topics include The Art of Advocacy, "Why Do Children Do What They Do?, How can parents help children better manage their behavior?" Does This Make Any Sense?
Session 2 will be from 12:10 to 1:20 p.m. Topics are Impact of a Disability on a Family; Nutrition and Health; Let's All Go Out To The Movies.
Session 3 will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Topics include Navigating Government Resources and Future Planning; Understanding the Siblings of Children with Special Needs; and Do You See What I See?
The cost of this conference is $35 per participant or $60 per couple. Lunch is included. Registration by Feb. 2 is required and space is limited. Choose one topic from each session. If registering as a couple, you may choose two topics from each session.
Scholarships are available through the Arc of Illinois, Consumer Involvement Fund Program and STAR NET's Family Fellowship Program.
