'Hotel Rwanda' subject to speak in Arlington Hts.
The former Rwandan hotel manager who saved more than 1,200 people during the 1994 genocide there will speak at St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights Monday, Nov. 2.
Paul Rusesabagina, who risked his life to shelter those seeking refuge from the massacre and whose story formed the basis of the film "Hotel Rwanda," will speak from 7-8:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the school at 1213 E. Oakton St. Admission is free.
Earlier Monday, Rusesabagina will speak to St. Viator students. The visit is hosted by the school's Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, in partnership with the Clerics of St. Viator.
Rusesabagina travels the world to talk about social justice, human rights activism and the lessons learned from the Rwandan genocide. His Chicago-based Hotel Rwanda Rusesabagina Foundation aims to raise awareness about the conflict that continues in Rwanda and in the surrounding Great Lakes Region of Africa, including in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in Darfur.
