Maine South Junior, Emma Garrelts, Commits to Virginia Tech

Maine South High School Junior, Emma Garrelts, has verbally committed to play soccer and pursue her academic career at Virginia Polytechnic and State University in the fall of 2023. She currently plays for Sockers FC Chicago's U17 Academy Team where she competes nationally in the Mid-America Conference of the GA (Girls Academy). The conference is home to the 2021 Girls Academy National Champs, Cincinnati United, as well as some of the best competition in the country. Sockers FC Chicago fosters growth and development of youth athletes, and young soccer players to reach their maximum potential. Emma has trained under the Sockers FC Academy since 2016.

Virginia Tech is part of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and ranked 30th in the NCAA Division 1. The ACC has 9 of the top 50 Women's Soccer Teams including #1 Florida State and #2 Duke. ACC teams have advanced to the Women's College Cup 51 times, which is the most of any conference.. Virginia Tech has been to 11 of the last 14 NCAA tournaments which includes 4 Sweet Sixteens (2009, 2011,2014, 2018) and 1 College Cup Final Four (2013).

After her trip to Blacksburg, VA, Emma said, "It felt like home the second I stepped onto campus."
