Parents, get your kids heart-screened
On Oct. 8 Glenbard North High School held its second EKG screening for students. The screening tests for sudden cardiac death and sometimes detects non-cardiac conditions.
This is made possible by the good people at Midwest Heart and its Young Hearts 4 Life program. The EKG is offered to all students at no cost. Parental permission is required. More information is available at their Web site www.mhcfoundation.org. A successful screening requires the help of many people. Once again, we were fortunate to partner with Glenbard North parent and student volunteers, administrators and staff as well as the greater North community. Each person played an important role in this undertaking.
Thanks to Augustino's Deli, Saverino and Associates and the Carol Stream Rotary for the continued support. A special thanks to Gary Heilers and Carol Lindhorn. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your help and support. Thanks to Dr. Joe and Kathy Marek, Johneen Davis and the YH4L staff. Your dedication is unbelievable. It was once again an honor to work with you.
Finally, I want to thank every parent who had their child screened. This is free; there is no reason not to participate. If your results shows nothing, be happy. If your test does detect something, be happier. Now you have the knowledge to follow up. This program does save lives.
Midwest Heart and Young Hearts 4 Life is able to offer this free screening with the support of many donors. This year's Heart to Heart event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Hyatt Lodge on the McDonald's campus.
