St. Viator aims for ESCC title

When St. Viator plays host to the East Suburban Catholic Conference girls golf meet today (9 a.m.) at Old Orchard, the Lions will looking to repeat their title of a year ago.

After an 8-0 season in conference meets, St. Viator (15-0 overall) hopes to be playing its best golf the next few weeks under coach Mick Drewes.

"I feel like we've struggled a little the past few weeks," said senior Abby Dickey of Elk Grove, who fired a 79 to win the Loyola Invite last Saturday at the par-73 Glencoe Golf Course where the Lions were second to champion Loyola. "It's time for all of us to pick up our games. I feel like this has just been a hiccup and our next two weeks will be strong."

Dickey and her fellow classmates Hailey Haworth (Inverness), Kelly Sullivan (Inverness) and Hallie Dunn (Barrington) posted a season-low score of 155 when they won a ESCC tri meet with Joliet Catholic and Providence Catholic Sept. 23 at the Woodruff Golf Course in Joliet earlier this season. Dickey shot a 36 that day.

"We know the Old Orchard course (Lions' home layout) so we hope to have solid scores all around," added Dickey, a four-years golfer for the varsity. "I know we can all shoot in the 80 and hopefully we can get some in the 70s."
