Fans catch up with Wise in Schaumburg
Everybody's ears perked up when 8-year-old Ben Taczy of Fox River Grove asked Dewayne Wise the question during his autograph signing in Schaumburg.
"We were wondering," Ben said, "if Mark Buehrle got you a thank-you gift for making that catch."
The White Sox outfielder laughed and told the dozens who gathered for his autograph signing Thursday at Field of Dreams in Woodfield Shopping Center that Buehrle had promised him three thank-you gifts for the ninth-inning catch that saved Buehrle's perfect game last month. He added though that Buehrle hadn't yet delivered or told him what they'd be, said Ben's mom, Heather Taczy.
She said Wise couldn't have been friendlier to Ben and his brother, Jack, 5, who inherited their love of the White Sox from their dad, Mike, a South Side native.
"They know everything about every player. They sit and watch every game," Heather Taczy said of her sons. "I hope I can get them to sit and do their homework like that someday."
