Scouting Hoffman @ Palatine

Hoffman Estates (0-5, 0-1) at Palatine (4-1, 0-1)

When 7:30 p.m. today at Chic Anderson Stadium

Last week Hoffman lost to Conant 35-6; Palatine lost to Schaumburg 28-21

Outlook Palatine junior Jim Smearman had a full week of reps at QB after coming in last week when Cody Bobbit suffered a shoulder separation which will keep him out until at least next week. "Obviously Bobbit is a playmaker, but we're taking the approach that it's the same offense," said Hoffman coach Bill Helzer. "I don't think they're going to lose all that much. (Smearman) throws a good ball." The Hawks are gearing up to see more of RB Joe Pelnar as Palatine tries to become eligible for its third straight playoff trip. "The kids have been challenged in every game," said Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly. "That's who we are and our level of play is right there with everybody else's. Our goals are still right there." Helzer said he will continue to rotate QBs David Gutierrez, who returned from injury for his first game last week, and Bryan Proskey. Palatine leads the series 14-9.
