Roselle police honors:

The Roselle Police Department placed second in the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police 2008-09 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge. The department will be recognized at an awards ceremony Aug. 12 in Rosemont during the annual Midwest Police and Security Expo at the Stephens Convention Center. The traffic safety challenge recognizes law enforcement agencies statewide for their efforts in addressing traffic and highway safety issues. Participation is voluntary and requires a detailed report of the department's policies, officer training, public information and education initiatives and effectiveness measures. Applications are judged by a team of highway safety professionals.

Saluting local businesses:

West Chicago is launching a new awards program to convey its appreciation to businesses. "Today more than ever, businesses both large and small are challenged to step-up to the pressures of a demanding marketplace through ingenuity, innovation and sheer grit, if they are to survive," Mayor Mike Kwasman said. "West Chicago has many such businesses, and intends to salute them through this annual program." One winner will be chosen in each of the following categories: Small Business of the Year, Community Service, Economic Development, Community Image and Green Initiatives. Businesses may nominate themselves. Information packets may be downloaded from www.westchicago.org and are also available at City Hall. The nomination deadline is September 4.

From A to Z:

Lombard's Web site now features a user-friendly, A-Z index of topics and subject matter on the home page at www.villageoflombard.org. "Sometimes people are not familiar where an item may fall with respect to village departments," said Larry McGhinnis, IT manager. "This alphabetical listing takes that out of the equation."
