More government control bad for us
I hope your readers took the opportunity to see the recent Disney movie in which the humans had been on a "vacation" space vehicle and, because of the extreme "comforts" afforded them by the ship's "staff," developed into round, helpless vegetables. I also hope that this message was not too subtle to the "ease centered" population of this country.
I for one do not want Obama's government to regulate everything to "protect" me; i.e. the president's suggestion that the Federal Reserve should have more power to "protect consumers!" What has happened to our ability to think and act intelligently for ourselves?
The reasons for many of the problems of the present economy are grounded in our own greed and carelessness. According to a report published by the Federal Reserve, "the personal saving rate has fallen from an average of 9.1 percent in the 1980s to an average of 1.7 percent so far this decade." Another economist's statistics show that the "household debt as a percent of disposable income" has risen from about 40 percent in 1956 to 130 percent in 2005.
What are we thinking? Should the government protect us from ourselves?
If we continue to look to "the government" to resolve issues we cause ourselves, we will eventually become as dependent as the "humans" on the space ship and will deserve every thoughtless moment of our "lives."
