Coroner: Man who drowned in Fox Lake had blood alcohol 3X threshold
Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said a McHenry man who drowned in Fox Lake Saturday night had a blood-alcohol content nearly three times the legal threshold.
James McKinley, 47, of McHenry, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.22 when he jumped into Fox Lake near the mouth of Squaw Creek at around 9 p.m. Saturday night.
Officials said McKinley did not anchor the boat before jumping in the water, and was not able to swim to catch up to the drifting vessel.
An unidentified woman reportedly called 911 from the boat, and rescue divers from Fox Lake, Antioch and Lake Villa found McKinley in about 2 feet of water at about 10:30 p.m.
McKinley is the son of James McKinley Sr., former chairman of the Fox Waterway Agency in Fox Lake.
The senior McKinley moved to Florida after resigning from the agency in 2002. He is back in town to oversee funeral arrangements for his son.
Funeral information has not been released.
