Chills and spills

Chills and thrills are in order at the Mundelein Park District's sled hill at Keith Mione Community Park on Midlothian Road (between Route 176 and Winchester Road). The lighted sledding hill is open daily, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting with three inches of snow. Non-metal sleds, tubes and saucers are permitted. Snowboards, skis and the constructing of jumps are not allowed. There is no admission charge. The park district's indoor pool, gym and full-service health club just steps from the sled hill. Daily passes and memberships are available. Call (847) 566-0650 or visit mundeleinparks.org.

Teacher wins award

Mundelein High School social studies teacher Neil McCarthy has received an Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Chicago. The prize was based on the feedback of former students who now attend the university. McCarthy is in his 11th year at Mundelein.
