Low-tech way to navigate offered at class

GPS is the latest in navigational technology, but what happens when the batteries die or the signal fades?

Learn how to navigate a natural or wilderness area during "Map & Compass Skills," a program that ensures you'll be able to find your way. This interactive class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 16, at Campton Hills Park in St. Charles.

Get plenty of hands-on time using a compass and topographic map. You also will acquire handy survival skills like how to determine direction using common objects such as sticks and stones or a watch.

The program is part of the Learn from the Experts series of ecology classes for adults, co-sponsored by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, the St. Charles Park District, the Geneva Park District, and the Fox Valley Park District. Preregistration and payment of $10 per person fee are required. Call (847) 741-8350 or e-mail programs@kaneforest.com to register or for more information.

Campton Hills Park is located on the south side of Campton Hills Road, just west of Peck Road in Campton Hills.
