Roselle Green Night

The village of Roselle invites residents to its second annual Green Night in Roselle at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at village hall, 31 S. Prospect St. This year's activities will focus on water and the environment. Attendees will hear how stormwater impacts the local watershed, view a rain barrel demonstration, and discover the benefits of a rain garden and how to plant one. Specialists from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Conservation Foundation will speak. Residents can order rain barrels in advance, and one person will win a free rain barrel. Green Night is designed to help Roselle residents become aware of sustainability issues in their own backyards. Residents are encouraged to help reduce waste by bringing a cup or mug from home. West Chicago's water honor

The City of West Chicago's water department earned a commendation from the Illinois Department of Public Health for achieving the highest standard of compliance with the Illinois Fluoridation Act for 2008. The amount of fluoride present in the city's water must consistently be within strict limits established by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and regulated by the state health department and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in order to achieve the highest standard designation. The addition of fluoride to drinking water is required by state and federal regulations to promote dental health and strengthen teeth.

Special traffic enforcements

Illinois State Police District 2 officers will conduct traffic enforcement patrols this month in McHenry, Kane, DuPage, DeKalb and Lake Counties. Troopers will concentrate on speeding, failure to use occupant restraints and other driving offenses. Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols involve a combination of increased enforcement and information designed to raise public awareness and compliance to all traffic laws. Safety Belt Enforcement Zones may also be used during the program. As part of the "Click It or Ticket" campaign, this special enforcement is funded through a grant from the U. S. Department of Transportation and administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
