Two hospitalized after Algonquin fire

An early morning fire on Algonquin's west side sent two adults to the hospital for smoke-related injuries.

At 2:50 a.m. Monday, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded to a fire in the 1700 block of Lehman Avenue.

They found smoke billowing out of the two-story house. A police officer initially saw the fire and notified the fire district, according to a news release.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 3:17 a.m., although crews remained at the scene until 10 a.m. to help clear it away.

The two adults were taken to Sherman Hospital for smoke inhalation, said Battalion Chief John Greene.

Officials say there were no smoke detectors in the house. They remind everyone to install smoke detectors, to test them weekly and to change their batteries twice a year.

Authorities are still working on a damage estimate and say the fire was not suspicious, Greene said.

Personnel from Huntley and Crystal Lake assisted.
