Survivors of Suicide Day:
The Mundelein fire station, 1000 Midlothian Road, is the site of the National Survivors of Suicide Day broadcast Nov. 21. Hosted for a third year by the Lake County Coroner's office, the event is noon to 1:30 p.m. Sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the annual event consists of a network of sites throughout the country where groups of survivors come together to watch a broadcast of speakers dealing with emotional support and available resources. "It is a collaborative effort of my office, our Lake County Suicide Prevention Task Force and the city of Mundelein," Keller said. Team turkey shoot:
The Mundelein Park District will host its annual free turkey shoot at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Mundelein Community Center, 1401 N. Midlothian Road, between Route 176 and Winchester Road. The event pairs adults and kids together for contests, including basketball free throws, slap shot hockey and bean bag toss. Winners in each category receive a gift card that can be used toward the purchase of a Thanksgiving turkey. The youngest "gobblers" get to shoot without frustration, using a special free throw line and scaled-down equipment. Participants must be a team of one adult, 16 or older and one child, aged 3 to 11. Hawthorn Elementary District 73 is seeking 60 to 80 volunteers with a variety of expertise and experience to create a common vision and actionable goals to strengthen schools and the community.
