Visitors to GLMV Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase Wednesday, April 22, and Thursday, April 23, at Westfield Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills can win a $1,000 gift card each day. The show takes place from noon to 8 p.m. each day. The showcase will feature many local businesses and organizations displaying products and services and also includes raffles, giveaways and live music. Paramedics to be honored

A team of Wauconda Fire Protection District paramedics will receive Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital's 2008 Platinum Award today for their fast actions during a heart-related rescue call. The crew got a patient with heart trouble into the Barrington-area hospital and prepared for an angioplasty procedure in 21 minutes, the fastest time for such a procedure last year, according to a news release. The ceremony is set for 3 p.m. at the Liberty Street fire station.

Holocaust remembrance

Congregation Beth Am will host a Yom HaShoah program, or Holocaust remembrance, at 7 p.m. today, at the congregation, 225 N. McHenry Road, in Buffalo Grove.
