Teen knows the questions

Stevenson High School junior Zach Blumenfeld has qualified for next week's "Jeopardy!" teen tournament semifinals, school officials announced. The 15 students competing are guaranteed $5,000 each, plus additional prizes for those who advance.

Riverwoods family establishes foundation

Patricia L. Kacyn, 53, of Riverwoods, died Feb. 5 from colon cancer after battling the disease for two years. Her family recently announced establishment of the Advantage Love Foundation, a not-for-profit, organization dedicated to funding research and education regarding, and eventually finding a cure for colorectal cancer. Advantage Love Foundation hopes to raise funds for colorectal cancer research and simultaneously educate people about the disease. Colon cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer, and yet more than 50,000 people die from it each year. Colorectal cancer accounts for more deaths annually than breast cancer and AIDS combined. Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Center wins honor

Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Center's competition that encourages safe and healthy weight loss through fun, team programs has been awarded "Best of the Best" Group Training Program by the country's leading fitness experts and editors at Club Industry magazine. Club Industry experts selected the Lindenhurst center from among entries from seven states. Entries were rated by a panel of judges including Geoff Dyer, founder of Lifetime Family Fitness, Gale Landers, CEO of Fitness Formula and an executive with Akron General Medical Center. Last year, eight teams of 25 people at the Lindenhurst center lost collectively almost 1,000 pounds. Members can participate up to 18 times each week in boot camp classes, team workouts, networking and presentations. Part of Lake Forest Hospital, the Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Center opened in 2000 and is focused on inspiring healthier lifestyles for members and the Lake County community.
