Wilson, Miller are sensible picks for D15

While it may take years for my 401k to recuperate and bring promise for the future - at least we can make a worthwhile investment in some new District 15 school board candidates and do something NOW for our children's' education in 2009.

As a new parent, I've been gaining awareness on the tasks and positioning of our current school board and the upcoming elections for our district. Two candidates stand out to me as presenting knowledgeable, caring and practical views: Vicki Wilson of Palatine and Steven Miller of Hoffman Estates.

In reading the responses of all the candidates in the Daily Herald questionnaire I heard myself saying "Yes! yes!" as I read the responses from Steven Miller and Vicki Wilson.

They both seem to be on the same page in emphasizing that academic achievement supported by parental/family involvement is an important objective. They know the research out there has proved how important family involvement is in our child's education.

Both candidates have a fresh approach to new ideas in strengthening the relationship between the board and the taxpayers; emphasizing the value of follow-up communication to concerned citizens' issues versus the current "thanks for your input" and no further updates.

Both Steve and Vicki have well-informed opinions on the No Child Left Behind program and its impact on our district.

I also agree with both candidates another top priority is "honesty and transparency with all stakeholders in the district" in regards to financial tasks.

The values of Vicki and Steve stood out to me as having a clear directive on what will ensure the success (plus repair some weaknesses) of our school board.

I'm putting my money on Vicki Wilson and Steve Miller, because my son's education needs leaders like them in District 15.
