Children's Health Fair set:
State Rep. Franco Coladipietro of Bloomingdale and State Sen. Carole Pankau of Itasca will sponsor a free Children's Health Fair from 9 a.m. to noon April 25 at Westfield Middle School, 149 Fairfield Way, Bloomingdale. Participants will include the DuPage Children's Museum, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Bloomingdale Park District, Bloomingdale Public Library and the Illinois Secretary of State. Services will include posture screenings, backpack safety, speech therapy, tutoring, family enrichment programs and a fire engine demonstration. For details, call (630) 582-0045.
District 94 wins:
Community High School District 94 in West Chicago took first place in the 13th annual Illinois LifeSmarts competition. Team members were Sam Wais of Winfield and Stuart Sankovitch, Bill Heinze, Ryan Stirrup and John Kinsella of West Chicago. Consumer education teacher Don Zabelin served as coach. The competition was held at Community High School in West Chicago and the team will now represent Illinois at the National LifeSmarts Competition on April 25-28 in St. Louis. LifeSmarts, a program of the National Consumers League, tests students' knowledge of financial management, technology, the environment, health and safety and consumer rights. LifeSmarts begins as an Internet competition and concludes in a game show format, face-to-face competition. For details, visit lifesmarts.org.
Oak Brook 'green' contest:
Students at Brook Forest Elementary School in Oak Brook are teaming up with Evergreen Bank Group in Oak Brook in its Go Green campaign. Evergreen Bank is offering a $250 scholarship to the student winner of a Go Green poster contest. The bank will also plant a tree at the school this spring in honor of the Go Green initiative. The posters, created by students at home, are due April 13 and will be judged by Evergreen Bank. Posters must include the name of Brook Forest and be original artwork by students.
