Tree lighting ceremonies in Cook County

Today

Arlington Heights: 4:45 p.m. at North School Park, Arlington Heights Road and Eastman Street. Food, music and the lighting of the North School Park light sculptures as well as the tree.

Elk Grove Village: 5:30 p.m., at Village Green, 901 Wellington Ave. Music from Elk Grove and Conant high school choirs; Santa and elves; more than 250,000 lights will be lit; fireworks. Free. (847) 357-4030; elkgrove.org.

Schaumburg: 6-9 p.m. at Prairie Center for the Arts, on the grounds of the Schaumburg Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court (Schaumburg and Summit). Santa comes on a fire truck to light the tree with Village President Al Larson. Schaumburg Jaycees have face painting, temporary tattoos, refreshments.

Rolling Meadows: 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, outside the McDonald's, 3140 Kirchoff Road. Caroling, Santa, hot chocolate, cookies.

Des Plaines: 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, Metropolitan Square, downtown Des Plaines, behind the Des Plaines Theater, between Lee Street and Pearson Avenue. Maine West Warrior Band; selections from "Scrooge" by Footlighters Theater players; the park district dance troupe and the Des Plaines Singing Librarians. Des Plaines History Center will roast chestnuts; local merchants will participate in "open house" fashion.

Bartlett: 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the gazebo in Bartlett Park, North and Oak avenues. Caroling with Bartlett High School Chorus; Santa will visit the Log Cabin. Hanover Park: 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the Municipal Complex, 2121 W. Lake St. Entertainment, refreshments and a "special guest" to light up the Village.

Streamwood: 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Veterans Memorial near Village Hall, 301 E. Irving Park Road. Volunteers, civic organizations and families line Park Boulevard, the Veteran's Memorial, Village Hall and other areas throughout town with luminarias. Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus before the tree lighting.

Inverness: 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, North Park, 300 N. Highland Road, Inverness. Santa arrives by fire truck at 5 p.m., caroling by the Sundling Junior High Chorus. Visit and share cookies with Santa. invernessparkdistrict.com.

Barrington: 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Cook and Main in downtown Barrington. Barrington High School Madrigal Singers perform. Free carriage rides downtown starting at 2 p.m.

Rosemont: 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Stephens Park. Holiday lights are turned on all over the village.
