Hollenbeck's 35 leads Libertyville
By the time the last group comes in during a golf dual meet, the medalist is usually in the clubhouse.
Not Tuesday at White Deer Run in Vernon Hills.
Libertyville's Eric Hollenbeck captured medalist honors by firing a 1-under-par 35. He was playing in the final group along with Vernon Hills' Jimmy Tyrcha, who shot a team-best 39.
Libertyville also got a 39 from Rocky Hudson, as well as 42s from Josh Ok and Paul Davidsen, allowing the Wildcats to pull out a 158-166 win.
Tyrcha's nine-hole score would have been even better if the junior hadn't carded a double-bogey on the par-4 ninth hole.
"That's a nice score for Jimmy," Vernon Hills coach Shawn Healey said of Tyrcha's 39. "He didn't quite finish, but he did a nice job."
Kris McGovern and Erik Hencier added a 41 and 42, respectively, for the Cougars.
Lake Zurich d. Antioch: At Spring Valley in Salem, Wis., Mike Nutter fired a 2-over-par 37 and was the only golfer to break 40, as he led Lake Zurich to a 168-185 win.
