Report: Illinois tax revenue from gambling increased 19% last year
Illinois bettors lost more money than ever last year, according to a new state report. State coffers, meanwhile, went in the opposite direction, collecting a record $2.7 billion in gambling-related revenue — a 19.2% increase from the previous year. It marks a 90% increase from fiscal year 2019, the final year before the state approved a massive gambling expansion aimed at raising revenue for the state’s ongoing capital infrastructure plan.
‘It’s a homecoming’: New Mundelein business adds to Lake County’s brewing history
A new Lake County brewery is opening its doors this month, joining a host of other local breweries that have begun operations thanks to the growing popularity of craft brewing. Final labor and delivery shift at Mercy Medical Center in Aurora full of bittersweet emotions
As they walked out the main door of Mercy Medical Center in the early hours of Thursday morning, there were squeals of surprise — along with plenty of laughter and chatter as this army of labor and delivery nurses was greeted with posters, flowers and bear hugs from mothers who had given birth at the Aurora hospital. Bartlett trustees delay vote on banning kratom products
Public input at Tuesday night’s village board meeting led Bartlett trustees to delay voting on a proposed kratom ban while they conduct more research on the drug. Trustees could decide they have everything they need to make a decision at their next meeting on Oct. 20.
Mount Prospect plans to build a new south side community center
Mount Prospect is moving ahead with plans to spend about $9 million to buy and refurbish a building on the south end of town as home to a new community center. The new facility will replace the village Community Connections Center and be called the Village Resource Center.

Former Illinois state Sen. Kirk Dillard, who also chaired of the Regional Transportation Authority for more than a decade, and his wife, Stephanie, sold their six-bedroom, 5,295-square-foot house in Hinsdale on Sept. 30 for $1.25 million and have downsized to a townhouse.
