Former RTA chair and state Sen. Kirk Dillard sells Hinsdale home for $1.2 million
Former Illinois state Sen. Kirk Dillard, who also chaired of the Regional Transportation Authority for more than a decade, and his wife, Stephanie, sold their six-bedroom, 5,295-square-foot house in Hinsdale on Sept. 30 for $1.25 million and have downsized to a townhome.
A Hinsdale Central High School alumnus, Dillard, 71, represented the Senate’s 24th District from 1993 until 2014 and ran unsuccessfully in GOP primaries for governor in 2010 and 2014.
He also was chief of staff for Gov. Jim Edgar during the late governor’s first term, and he chaired the RTA’s board from 2014 until it was reconstituted as the Northern Illinois Transit Authority and restructured. That change took effect on September 1.
Dillard and his wife paid $635,000 in 2000 for the Hinsdale house. Built in 1998, it has 3¹/₂ bathrooms, dual main-floor offices, a kitchen with custom cabinetry and high-end appliances, a breakfast room, a family room, and a finished basement with a full second kitchen. Outdoor features include a freshly painted exterior, a paver brick patio, a pergola, a high brick privacy wall and an attached, two-car garage.
“After 26 years and raising a family in the house, it was time to downsize now that our children have graduated college,” Dillard said. “Hinsdale is my hometown, and we moved there when my father got a teaching position at Hinsdale Central High School. Fortunately, we are just moving across the railroad tracks … to a lovely town home, so we still live in Hinsdale.”
The house the couple sold is located in northwest Hinsdale.
“We loved the old neighborhood and the street was loaded with children and was on a small cul-de-sac so there were always kids playing,” Dillard said. “It was a great family environment. A major selling point was that it is near a top statewide-rated grade school. Ironically, one of the new buyers is a member of the local school board with young children. Excellent schools are a major factor in home values.”
Dillard and his wife first listed the house in June for just under $1.3 million. They found a buyer seven weeks later.
The house had a $14,741 property tax bill in the 2025 tax year.
Dillard and his wife paid $950,000 in May for their three-bedroom, 3,007-square-foot townhome in Hinsdale.
Real estate agent Mike McCurry of Compass, who is a former Minnesota Vikings football player, represented Dillard in both transactions.
