Man charged with DUI, reckless homicide after woman killed, two boaters injured in crash on Fox River

A Lisle man faces aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide on a watercraft charges stemming from a boat collision Saturday on the Fox River that killed a woman and left two other boaters injured, authorities said.

Richard M. Stevenson, 45, was booked into the McHenry County jail at 4:30 a.m. Sunday on the felony charges, jail records show. He will remain in custody pending a scheduled court appearance Monday afternoon.

The crash was reported at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday south of the McHenry Dam near McHenry, authorities said. There were two people aboard each boat when the collision occurred, according to the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

One of the boats ran ashore after the crash and both its occupants fled the scene, fire officials said. One was located and treated for non-life-threatening injuries; the other remained at large as of Sunday, fire officials said.

A woman aboard the other boat was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the fire district. A man in that boat was taken to a hospital on advanced life support, fire officials reported.

Illinois Conservation Police are investigating the crash.

Fire officials said the area where the crash occurred is a no-wake zone, designed to keep boat speeds low. Investigators are working to determine how fast the boats were traveling at impact.
