‘Brewing soon’: Elk Grove Village lands one of first Dutch Bros Coffee shops in the suburbs

Dutch Bros Coffee — the drive-through West Coast chain popular with young people — will open one of its first Chicago-area locations in Elk Grove Village, Mayor Craig Johnson said Thursday. The coffee shop will be built on one of two retail outlots on the northwest corner of Meacham and Biesterfield roads as part of Nicholas & Associates Inc. and subsidiary Wingspan Development Group’s ice rink redevelopment project.

Been there, done that: Starship Travel in South Elgin celebrates 40 years

If there’s a place you’ve been itching to go on vacation, there’s a good chance Linda Schreiber of Starship Travel has been there and done that. And if not, someone on the staff of her South Elgin business at 323 S. Randall Road probably has. The agency is celebrating 40 years of making travel easier and safer for people in the suburbs Sunday, April 12, with an anniversary travel show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Elgin Country Club, 2575 Weld Road.

Soaring gas prices leads to biggest monthly inflation spike in four years in March

The largest monthly jump in gas prices in six decades caused a sharp spike in inflation in March, creating major challenges for the inflation-fighters at the Federal Reserve and heightening the political challenges of rising costs for the White House. Consumer prices rose 3.3% in March from a year earlier, the Labor Department said Friday, the biggest yearly increase since May 2024.

Candy Hall of Fame coming to Chicago next year

Thursday’s announcement naming Chicago as the permanent home of the Candy Hall of Fame Experience surely put a smile on the face of anyone with a sweet tooth. The exhibition will showcase iconic candy brands, industry achievements, and the innovators and entrepreneurs behind them. The 60,000-square-foot venue is expected to open in summer 2027 at 830 N. Michigan Ave.

Longtime Paddock Publications executives to retire

Two longtime executives of Paddock Publications Inc., publisher of the Daily Herald and other print and online products, have announced their retirements. Scott Stone, the company’s president and chief operating officer, and Kent Johnson, the executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, will retire later this spring after more than six decades combined at the suburban Chicago media company.
