Dining out: Throwback pricing at Clara’s, Giordano’s Italian beef pizza and more

Party like it’s 1987

Clara’s in Woodridge is celebrating its 39th anniversary Friday, March 13, with a special throwback menu and pricing honoring the restaurant’s opening year — 1987.

Guests can dine on a three-course $19.87 anniversary menu featuring one original appetizer, a choice of pasta, a side and dessert. The evening will include festive touches throughout the restaurant, including a photo booth, complimentary cake for guests and a free raffle.

Clara’s is also bringing back the original 1987 price of its signature lasagna for the three Tuesdays following the anniversary — March 17, 24 and 31 — offering the restaurant’s most popular dish for $6.75 for a one-pound portion for dine-in guests.

Pi Day deals

Saturday, March 14, is Pi Day, which means not only do you get to celebrate the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, but you can also get some tasty deals.

Blaze Pizza is continuing its annual buy one 11-inch pizza, get a second for $3.14 deal. They have suburban locations in Niles and Schaumburg.

7-Eleven and Speedway Rewards members can get a whole pizza for $3.14 Friday and Saturday, March 13-14.

Very Chicago-style

Giordano’s is again teaming up with Buona to combine two iconic Chicago flavors for their LTO Italian Beef Pizza.

Offered as a shipping exclusive last year as part of the brand’s nationwide online “Chi-Town Flavors” series, the pizza can be ordered on any style of crust and is topped with Italian beef, roasted sweet green peppers and spicy giardiniera.

The Italian Beef Pizza will be available for in-store dining, carryout and delivery at participating Giordano’s locations through April 6.

On the cocktail side, try an old fashioned, sangria, Spanish-style gin and tonic, margarita or Moscow mule.

Spring is springing

Fat Rosie’s is bringing the flavors of spring with a limited-time menu featuring fresh seafood, citrus-forward cocktails and colorful desserts through April 27.

Limited-time starters include pescadillas (folded tortillas filled with Mexican-style fish of the day and topped with lettuce, sour cream, queso fresco, tomatoes and tres chiles salsa) and alitas de pollo (wings with a mango-habanero glaze served with a cotija-chipotle aioli).

The three seasonal entrées are enchiladas de marisco filled with shrimp and tilapia, tacos de cecina featuring cumin-marinated eye round steak, and salmon encacahuatado with a chipotle glaze.

Spring sips include a blood orange basil margarita, smoke lychee mezcalita and the Acapulco spring break, with reposado tequila and mango, pink guava and strawberry puree.

Finish the night off with Niño Envuelto de Guayaba, a light vanilla sponge cake rolled with guava mousse, basted in chocolate ganache, and served with rompope cream anglaise and hibiscus-infused strawberries.
