Learn about an early DuPage County settler at Lisle Heritage Society program
Learn about DuPage County’s history as experienced by one of its earliest settlers with presenter Kate Gingold on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Gingold was inspired by Naperville’s 175th anniversary in 2006 to write about the early history of DuPage County, including Ruth Eliza Murray who was Joseph Naper’s niece. She was 12 years old when she traveled from Ashtabula, Ohio to what is now Naperville with a group of about 60 men, women, and children.
Gingold’s book, “Ruth by Lake and Prairie,” was honored with a certificate of excellence by the Illinois State Historical Society for “creativity within an accurate framework of history.”
Gingold, who was born in Chicago, grew up in Park Ridge. She earned degrees in creative writing and fine arts at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.
The Lisle Heritage Society program will be at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 1006 Ogden Ave., Lisle. For reservations or information, visit LisleHeritageSociety.org.
