Historical society celebrates 80th anniversary of VE Day with Victory Dance

The McHenry County Historical Society and Museum invites the community to a special Victory Dance from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

The society will recreate a lively “canteen” reminiscent of World War II Europe, complete with festive balloons, streamers, and historic wartime posters. Guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the era by dressing in their best 1940s attire.

The evening will feature the swing sounds of the Yorkville Big Band, providing a backdrop for a nostalgic night of dance and celebration. Attendees also can purchase a corsage or boutonniere for their special someone and enjoy a classic Coke and doughnut before dinner begins.

The event will take place at VFW Post 4600, 3002 Route 120 in McHenry. To enhance the experience, dance lessons will be available, enabling everyone to hit the dance floor with confidence. Participants will have the chance to win prizes for the best dancers and the best costumes.

Tickets are $100 ($80 for members or $150 for a member couple.) For information, visit mchenrycountyhistory.org.
