79-year-old woman seriously injured after being struck by car in Ingleside
A 79-year-old woman was struck by a car and seriously injured Wednesday afternoon on Big Hollow Road near Leonard Avenue in Ingleside.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the woman appeared to have been walking on the roadway about 1:50 p.m. when she was struck by a Nissan Altima heading east driven by a 41-year-old Wood Dale woman.
Authorities said it appeared the Nissan driver tried to swerve but was unable to avoid striking the woman. Preliminary information shows the injured woman may have memory issues and left her home without her caretaker’s knowledge, authorities said.
The Nissan driver and a small child in the back seat were not injured and the driver is cooperating with investigators, authorities said.
The crash is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
