Lake Park High theater camp to put on ‘Alice in Wonderland Jr.’
“Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr.” is presenting a free performance at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 17, in the Lake Park High School East Campus Dice Auditorium, 600 S. Medinah Road in Roselle.
The zany 60-minute musical is based on the 1951 Disney film and the novels by Lewis Carroll. The performance represents the culmination of a two-week summer camp that includes classes in acting, singing, dancing, technical theater, and more.
The summer theater camp cast and crew includes over 70 students led by Sara Keith (Lake Park English teacher and director), Mikayla Testolin (choreographer and Lancer for Life Class of 2022), Maggie Gordon (vocal director and Lancer for Life, Class of 2023), and Ethan Goldspiel (Lake Park technical director).
Fall down the rabbit hole with Alice (Lake Park sophomore Kay Insidioso), Small Alice (Peacock Middle School sixth-grader Mila Gobetz), and Tall Alice (freshman Sarah Ksiazek) as she navigates the curious world of Wonderland on her journey of self-discovery.
Along her adventure, Alice encounters the ever-tardy White Rabbit (Roselle Middle School sixth-grader Lyla Hawkins), the grinning Cheshire Cat (sophomore Finn Rossio, senior Niki Vandergriff and Franzen Intermediate fifth-grader Kayla Schneider); a cool Caterpillar (Westfield eighth-grader Hannah Mele); the wacky Mad Hatter (sophomore Eliza Johanek) and March Hare (freshman Emmett Richey), a temperamental Queen (freshman Bella Newsted), and many more beloved Wonderland characters in this charming updated retelling of the classic Lewis Carroll stories.
Adapted especially for young performers, the musical features favorite songs from the Disney canon, including “I’m Late,” “The Unbirthday Song,” and “Painting the Roses Red,” as well as music from the 2010 Tim Burton live-action film.
Whether this is your first experience with Alice or your hundredth, you’ll lose your head (and your heart) for “Alice in Wonderland Jr.”
