What’s up with Wheaton apartment project? Developer could soon begin site’s demolition
Developer Banner Real Estate envisioned 300-plus apartments along the south side of the train tracks running through downtown Wheaton. The council agreed to allow the construction of a mixed-use building across the city block bounded by Liberty Drive on the north, Hale Street on the east, Willow Avenue on the south and Wheaton Avenue on the west. More than 30 months later, the project has yet to get off the ground.
State regulators block shutdown of psychiatric unit at Arlington Heights hospital
State regulators have blocked plans to eliminate inpatient psychiatric services at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights. Corporate owner Endeavor Health’s request to close the 52-bed NCH Behavioral Health Center, 901 W. Kirchoff Road, failed to gain Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approval.
U.S. home sales rose in February as mortgage rates eased
Sales of previously occupied U.S. homes rose in February as easing mortgage rates and more properties on the market encouraged home shoppers. Existing home sales rose 4.2% last month from January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.26 million units, the National Association of Realtors said Thursday.

Billy Bricks brick-oven pizzeria marks 20 years of serving wood-fired pizza in Lombard. After a dozen years, founder Bill Wilson opened a second location in a spot in downtown Wheaton. Another restaurant in Naperville followed a year later. They currently have seven pizzerias and operate seven food trucks throughout the suburbs.
‘I love everything here’: Moretti’s opens in Wheeling
The new Moretti’s restaurant in Wheeling opened Thursday at 365 W. Dundee Road. It occupies a prime location in the Wheeling Town Center complex. The 8,400-square-foot building’s prior occupant was a City Works restaurant that was shuttered in December 2023.

A Texas-based developer wants to repurpose the empty, fire-scarred Regal Cinemas in Round Lake Beach into a family entertainment center. The proposal by Thakkar Developers of McKinney, Texas, envisions seven movie screens, a full-service restaurant, games and other activities at the former theater, 550 E. Rollins Road, just south of the village municipal complex.
