Who had the top prep basketball performances last week?

What a week.

Montini’s girls basketball team won a Class 3A title, Fremd’s girls team finished second in 4A and a boatload of boys teams won sectional titles.

It’s time again for the High Five to honor the area’s top prep basketball performances of the week.

5. Ella Todd, Fremd

Todd, committed to Utah, propelled the Vikings to a second straight trip to the state semifinals with a 26-point supersectional performance against Glenbard West.

The 6-foot senior had 13 points in a semifinal win over Loyola and ended her prep playing career with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the title game against Kenwood.

4. Zach Ausburn, Warren

The Blue Devils won the Class 4A Waukegan sectional championship with an exclamation point from Ausburn.

The 6-foot-8 senior center, a first-year starter, scored 23 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in a victory over the host Bulldogs. In the sectional semifinals, Ausburn nearly came up with another double-double, scoring 8 points with 10 rebounds.

3. Coco Urlacher, Fremd

The 5-10 senior was simply remarkable in the Vikings’ 80-74 double-overtime win over Loyola in the semifinals.

Not only did Urlacher score 32 points and grab 17 rebounds, she saved Fremd’s season by knocking down a turnaround, fadeaway 3-pointer as time expired to send the game to a second overtime.

Urlacher, who scored 10 points in the supersectional, finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Kenwood in the final.

2. Ian Miletic, Rolling Meadows

The 6-7 senior, committed to Marquette, helped the Mustangs secure their first sectional title since 1990 by scoring 35 points in a Class 4A win over Fremd. Miletic knocked down 14 of 20 shots from the field.

Miletic poured in 37 points in the sectional semifinals, a 54-53 overtime victory against Stevenson. First he nailed a 3-pointer to send the game to overtime and then scored the eventual game-winning points with another 3-pointer in the final minute of the extra period.

Rolling Meadows reached the 30-win mark for the first time.

1. Nikki Kerstein, Montini

Kerstein is a Division I recruit, an all-state performer and now she’s a state champion.

The 5-8 senior, a Missouri recruit, averaged 23 points in the supersectional win over Grayslake Central, the semifinal victory over Quincy Notre Dame and the title game win over St. Ignatius.

The Broncos’ championship run, their fifth, was the program’s first since 2014.
