Kildeer lost its top sales tax producer when Best Buy closed earlier this year. Another store has filled the space in the Quentin Collection shopping center at Route 12 and North Quentin Road. But because it won’t match the revenue generated by Best Buy and other factors, Kildeer voters will be asked to approve an increase in the local sales tax rate.

The Moorings’ new senior independent-living apartments approved in Arlington Heights

The Moorings can build a five-story, 70-unit apartment building on its Arlington Heights campus, the village board decided Tuesday, helping to fill the senior living community’s growing demand for more independent-living spaces. Zoning changes requested by Presbyterian Homes, which has managed the 41-acre campus at 811 E. Central Road since 2000, were approved.

After two years, a denial and numerous revisions a new residential neighborhood has been approved in Lake Zurich. The unnamed development on about 9 acres between South Old Rand and Buesching roads will feature a mix of 18 single-family homes and 18 townhouses.

Dirty Dough’s stuffed cookies coming to Buffalo Grove

A mother-daughter duo from Gurnee hopes to clean up financially by opening a shop in Buffalo Grove specializing in messy cookies. Dirty Dough Cookies is opening soon at 127 McHenry Road in The Grove shopping center. Part of a national chain with locations in Rockford and South Barrington, the company’s specialty is stuffed gourmet cookies with a weekly rotating roster of flavors.

Squire Ale House coming to former The Lodge location in Campton Hills

After being in the restaurant business for decades, Bob Karas, owner of Karas Restaurant Group, is about to embark on a new adventure when he opens Squire Ale House on Route 64 in Campton Hills this fall. The group owns 15 popular restaurants in the Fox Valley area, including Rookies, Alexander’s Cafe and The Village Squire locations.

Deal to redevelop vacant Lisle strip mall terminated

Downtown Lisle’s Family Square Plaza will remain shuttered a while longer. Indianapolis-based developer Flaherty & Collins missed an Aug. 30 deadline to show it had financing in place for a project to demolish the downtown strip mall and build a 198-unit apartment building with retail on the first floor.

Arlington Heights’ first brewery on tap to open downtown

Arlington Heights’ first brewery will be only blocks from where owner Eric Lamkins has been crafting his own suds for years. The home-brewer — also a beekeeper and marketing/graphic design chief — will make small batches of beer at Spent Grain Brewing, which is on tap to open later this year at 17 N. Vail Ave.
