New Tradition Chorus takes a staycation

This summer, the New Tradition Chorus is hitting all the right notes as it gears up for a series of six performances across the local area. The next performance is at Glenview Farmer's Market on June 22.

While some choral groups are known to jet off to Europe for their summer tours, the New Tradition Chorus is staying close to home, bringing its unique a cappella sound to local audiences.

The chorus has a full schedule that spans a variety of venues, from local Farmers Markets to an ice cream social at the Del Webb community in Mundelein to an Artists Series in Huntley.

"We're looking forward to performing in all kinds of places this summer," said Mitch Greenberg, the chorus director. “We perform two major shows a year, but there’s something special and fun about reaching audiences with our music in a new and unique setting."

Longtime chorus member Russ Hook said he is looking forward to the summer lineup, stating, "There's a unique energy when we perform in a new setting with a different crowd. We're looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces but are hoping to gather some new fans as well."

In addition to their public performances, the New Tradition Chorus - which has a 501(c)(3) status - is also planning to bring some special offerings to the community. Free singing lessons are often offered in fall and, for the 17th year, the chorus will host a Youth In Harmony Festival at Fox Lake High School in October. This festival is designed to engage and inspire young singers, fostering a love for choral music in the next generation.

For information on performance dates and venues, visit the New Tradition Chorus website newtradition.org or follow on social media.

All are welcome to visit any Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Glenview Community Church, 1000 Elm St., in Glenview.
