What marijuana reclassification means for the United States

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is moving toward reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous drug. The Justice Department proposal would recognize the medical uses of cannabis, but wouldn't legalize it for recreational use. The proposal would move marijuana from the “Schedule I” group to the less tightly regulated “Schedule III.”

Retired Mundelein business owner, volunteer dies just days after wife

A retired Mundelein paint store owner who was active with several community organizations in Lake County has died, just 13 days after his wife of nearly 75 years. Robert W. “Bob” Anderson, 95, who lived for many years in Fox Lake but most recently was at an assisted living facility in McHenry, died Monday. His wife, Vivian, 94, died April 16.

This city’s unlimited paid time off policy believed to be first in suburbs

Some public employees at Rolling Meadows City Hall are now eligible for unlimited paid time off, in what is believed to be a first for a large municipality in the suburbs. The updated personnel policy is being rolled out this year before taking full effect in 2025.

Patience paying off for Buffalo Grove on Rohrman redevelopment

After more than a decade of sitting dormant, the former Rohrman property on Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove is on its way to new life. The project broke ground Wednesday. When the dust settles and construction is complete, the 16-acre site on Dundee Road between Old Arlington Heights Road and Bison Park will be home to a new Tesla sales and service center, a 224-unit apartment building and 30,000 to 40,000 square feet of retail space.
