Cary area robotics team wins a Connect Award at FIRST World Championship

The Golden Ratio Robotics team finished 23rd out of 56 in their division and received the Franklin Division second place Connect Award at the FIRST World Championship in Houston on April 17-20, 2024.

The Connect award is granted to the team whom the judges feel made the most intentional and impactful effort to connect and collaborate with industry professionals throughout their competition season.

Their trip to the world championship was made possible by generous donations from their title sponsor, Baxter and several local area companies.

There were 259 teams from 59 countries competing. The World Championship title went to a team alliance from Romania, California, and South Africa.

FIRST is a competitive team sport for students with levels for ages 6 to 18 geared at inspiring students in the STEM fields.

The Golden Ratio team consists of high school students from three area schools. In addition to designing, prototyping, assembling, and programming their robot for competition, the team spends several hours throughout the season each year mentoring and teaching young engineers through local library programs and reaching out to learn from STEM professionals.
