Wheaton police responded around 5:04 a.m. on Aug. 23, 2020, to a home invasion in the 1700 block of Evergreen Street.

Residents reported noises coming from outside. When they went out to investigate, Johnson pointed a handgun at them, and Pitts went in through the backdoor.

Pitts entered a bedroom where two young girls and their grandmother were sleeping. He tried to pull down the blanket, shorts and underwear of one of the girls. The grandmother woke up and spoke to Pitts, who hit her in the head. The girls’ father fought with Pitts, and Pitts and Johnson fled.

Around 5:22 a.m., Lombard police responded to a home invasion and shooting in the 400 block of South Highland Avenue.

The male homeowner, sleeping in the living room, was awoken by the duo. Johnson pointed a gun at him and asked, “Where’s the money?”

Pitts went to an upstairs bedroom where the mother and daughter were sleeping. He ordered the daughter to go to the basement and remove her clothing. She refused and ran off.

Pitts and the father struggled in the house and the backyard. Johnson shot the father; the bullet went through him and hit Pitts.

Johnson and Pitts left in a vehicle driven by Keytori Jackson, 25, of Broadview. She pleaded guilty to home invasion in 2022 and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
