Woodridge business owner a contestant on ‘The Blox’

Suburban business owner Diane Moca will join a group of elite company founders competing to be named the most valuable, most investable or best overall on the entrepreneur reality show “The Blox,” which begins filming its 13th season Feb. 20.

“I’m really proud to represent Chicagoland in this competition, where entrepreneurs gather from around the country to show the judges how they can think on their feet, embrace new ideas and explain why their business should be crowned the best on ‘The Blox,’ ” said Moca of Woodridge, founder and CEO of MomSub.

MomSub is a service-based company in the Western suburbs that reduces the cost, hassle and stress of finding, arranging and managing child care. It eliminates subscription and placement fees while still providing hands-on assistance to search, vet, negotiate, book and pay for child care providers.

“Signing up is fast, easy and free,” Moca said.

Moca is among roughly 50,000 people who apply every year to be part of “The Blox,” hosted by actor and reality star Wes Bergmann and operated by the BetaBlox business incubator in Kansas City.

About 70 entrepreneurs are selected each season to come together in one location to be filmed all day and night while learning, bonding and competing. For six days straight, contestants endure up to 14 hours of workshops and consultations focused on specific business concepts, with each competitor required to get up in front of the judges and their peers to give impromptu presentations on applying each day’s topic to their own company.

“I think my 15 years as a television reporter and more recent experience running several different businesses have helped prepare me for this awesome opportunity to put a spotlight on my tech startup, MomSub, and bond with other founders,” said Moca, who leaves Tuesday for Tulsa, Oklahoma, to join the other contestants for the show’s filming.

“I hope to come away with new friendships and new possibilities for moving closer to my vision of a day when MomSub is known everywhere as the quickest, easiest and most affordable place to find and keep the right child care provider,” Moca said. “Our mission is for MomSub to do all the work for you, so you can focus on spending time with your kids. I’m proud we’re bringing more calm and confidence to local moms, as shown in our five-star reviews.”

Moca, who grew up in Addison, launched her first company, Happy Home Solutions, in 2009, and acquired her second business, Lawn Greeting Cards, in 2015. She has reported for “Business First AM” produced at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, “Talking Cities Aurora,” Chicago Parent, Naperville Sun, Suburban Life, CLTV, CBS 58 in Milwaukee and many other news organizations.
